The date has been decided!
I just got off the phone with Gaga Humax, the information is not even up on their web site yet--but they have decided on an opening date for Fahrenheit 9/11 in Japan.
It will open exclusively at the Ebisu Garden Cinema in Tokyo on August 14th, and then open to a nationwide release in more than 140 theaters on August 21.
You heard it here first!
Update: And by the way, F-9/11 just broke the $80 million mark at the box office in the U.S.!
Another Update: Here is a partial list, in Japanese, of theaters nationwide which will carry the film. The list is not complete, and will be updated over time.
sure did. 140 theaters! From what I remember BFC only played in one theater.

We've each seen it twice and plan to go back. It is, all politics aside, the best film of 2004 and probably the best American documentary for a number of reasons. Its success-it's a documentary in a top ten set with initially like 800 theatres, and every single other entry in that list starts with at least 2100 theatres, so think about that--is not only unprecendented but sustained. It has the most tasteful, respectful and sob-demanding treatment of IX/XI itself ever done, and its portrayal of "the troops" is unparallelled. Certainly the questions it asks and its treatment of these subjects is far superior to the combination Tom Clancy gun-worship porn and recitation of Republican talking points we've been assaulted with on the corporate media every evening.
(You might also gauge the collossal nature of this film event by the explosion of paid attack dogs trying to spread lies about Moore. Moore is not Jesus, but he is much more topical, correct and careful than everybody seems to insist on pretending. It really is sickening how some liberals think that, given that rightists are exclusionist take-no-prisoners extremists, credibility or friendship with them can be won by granting outright lies about someone like Moore.)

I agree, and hope to see it 2 or 3 times myself. I downloaded the film from the Internet as Moore & Lion's Gate said it was OK with them, but have not and will not watch it until I've seen it in the theater, and then mainly for reference.
BTW, The Daily Show did a hilarious bit on Michael Wilson's scum piece "Michael Moore Hates America," shown on the "Global Edition" of the show on CNN. Priceless! The piece is called "I dislike Mike," and can be viewed here. Wilson comes across looking like a complete idiot, and though that's what the show's correspondent pieces try to do as a gag, it's probably not too far off the real mark...
